Not all fractures of the nose need to be surgically repaired. The decision about whether and how best to correct a broken nose is based mainly on the external appearance and the internal function of the nose.
Many nasal fractures can be simply repaired without the need for any internal or external incisions—the bones are simply “pushed” back into their normal position and held in palce with a splint on the outside of the nose and sometimes with temporary packing inside the nose.
It is very important to remember that if a fracture is to be repaired, it needs to be performed within 14 days of the trauma.
