A bunionectomy is a surgery used to remove a painful bump on the toe called a bunion. Bunions are normally caused by misalignment or enlargement of bones of the big toe pressing against neighboring toes.
In an Austin Bunionectomy, the surgeon will remove the excess bone from the bunion, make a v-shaped cut in the bone, called an osteotomy, and reposition it. The repositioning will straighten the toe. Because the bone has been cut, it will be fixated with screws.
You will be given a special shoe to wear after the surgery is over.
