Neuroma Excision

Knowing What to Expect

Preparing for surgery can feel overwhelming or scary if you don’t know what to expect. You may have some unanswered questions and worries that make you feel this way. Knowing what to expect will help you feel less nervous and more in control.

A neuroma excision is a procedure done to alleviate pain in the foot when walking or standing due to a neuroma. A neuroma is a swollen nerve situated in the ball of your foot.

Before surgery is considered an option, typically treatment for a neuroma starts with injecting corticosteroid into the area to try to make the neuroma smaller. If this injection doesn’t work, surgery is the next step.

The surgeon will locate the swollen nerve, and will be removed from your foot. Patients have said that their pain has gone away for five years after having a neuroma excision.
