Adenoidectomy is a surgical procedure to remove the adenoids when they have become infected. The adenoids are located behind the nasal passages. BMT, or bilateral myringotomy and tubes, is a procedure done to remove fluid inside the ear, help reduce pain and pressure, and can help prevent future infections.
In a BMT surgery, small tubes are placed in the eardrums to allow air flow.
These tubes allow air to flow behind the eardrums, causing the fluid to either drain out or dry up. These surgeries are usually done for children, and can be done at the same time so the child does not have to go through two separate surgeries.
