Knowing What to Expect

Preparing for surgery can feel overwhelming or scary if you don’t know what to expect. You may have some unanswered questions and worries that make you feel this way. Knowing what to expect will help you feel less nervous and more in control.

When the frenulum, or tissue that connects the tongue to the floor of the mouth, is too short, it can cause a person to be tongue tied. This is also known as Ankyloglossia. It is an abnormality that is present at birth in some people.

The tissue connecting the tongue and floor of the mouth is too short and does not allow the tongue to reach beyond the lower gums. This can make breastfeeding difficult for newborns.

A frenulectomy is a procedure to remove the tissue that causes the Ankyloglossia.
