Eye muscle surgery is known as Strabismus surgery. Strabismus surgery is used to loosen or tighten eye muscles which will change the eye’s alignment. Your eye muscles are attached to the wall of the eye, called the sclera.
The conjunctiva is a layer of tissue that covers the muscles. Your surgeon will hold open the eyelid to access the eye, and make an incision in the conjunctiva in order to reach the eye muscle. Then, a small hook is used to isolate the muscle or muscles being operated on.
After surgery, it is normal for the white of your eyes to be red. This redness will disappear over time.
